STORAGE: A COLD FRIDGE IS BEST, YOUR BEER IS FOOD!
Your preservative & chemical free beer should be stored in a dark cold area to extend it's optimum taste and clarity. The colder the storage temperature the longer you will get to enjoy your clear food, OOPS your Beer!
The shelf life of beer has three stages.
The first stage is when your beer is as clear as when it was bottled or canned.
The second stage is when your beer starts to get cloudy but has no change in flavour.
The beginning of the third stage you begin to taste the yeast, at the end of this stage your beer tastes as yeasty as when people make it in their homes leaving sediment on the bottom of the bottles. Each stage has the same length of time depending on the temperature it is stored at.
Cold beer fridge (40-42°F) approximately 8-12 weeks clarity.
Cool dark basement (50-55°F) approximately 4-8 weeks clarity.
Warm spot in the hall closet (68-72°F) approximately 2-3 weeks clarity.
As a natural food product, your beer contains a minute amount of live brewer's yeast in suspension. Over time (the colder — the slower the process) the suspended yeast will secondary ferment in the bottle causing a cloudiness in your brew. This is a natural process and cloudy beer is fine to drink. In fact brewer's yeast contains Vitamin B complex which is claimed to diminish the effects of alcohol consumption. Alcohol will lower your body's Vitamin B complex affecting your brain, nervous system, and bodily fluids resulting in what is better known as a hangover.
SERVING YOUR BEER
"Temperature" — various beer styles are served at different temperatures. North American ales and lagers are best served at 42° to 45° F. British ales and bitters are best served at 52° to 55° F.
"Foam Head'' — Your beer is carbonated to a draught beer level (not fizzy pop, gassy bottled levels!), Lower carbonation allows you to better taste and enjoy your great beer. In order to get good foam head on your glass of beer ... use a clean, wet glass free of detergents and soap residues ... pour your beer into the centre of the glass, NOT down the sides.
"Foam Tips" — Lipstick, chapsticks, oils from foods such as chips, cheese, etc. will destroy beer head retention.
